This trio of two pound coins was created to mark the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare.
The coins designed by John Bergdahl represent his play genres, Histories, Comedies and Tragedies.
At the time of writing, mintage figures for these coins has yet to be published by The Royal Mint, but from reviewing available information, here at Coin Checker we believe the coins did have different mintages with the Tragedies coin likely to have been produced in the highest numbers and the Comedies coin being the rarest of the three.
Shakespeare produced plays, mostly comedies and histories at first, later concentrating on tragedies which included Macbeth, Hamlet and King Lear.
He married Anne Hathaway in 1582 and died aged 52 on 23 April 1616. He was buried at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Stratford-upon-Avon.
