The XVII Commonwealth Games 2 pound coins dated 2002 were created to mark the seventeenth games which were hosted in Manchester from 25th July 2002.

The 4 designs are identical except for the small flag of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland shown in the circle.

72 countries took part in the games which comprised of 17 disciplines including Athletics, Aquatics, Weightlifting, Shooting, Cycling and Gymnastics. England came 2nd in the overall medal table taking 165 medals of which 54 were gold. Wales 9th (31 medals, 6 gold), Scotland 10th (30 medals, 6 gold) and Northern Ireland 17th (5 medals, 2 gold).
